Pedagogy and Simulation

Prerequisites: having completed the “Training facilitators in simulation-based education” introductory module (3 days)

TARGET PUBLIC
The following may enrol in this University Diploma course subject to the Director’s written authorisation and following an opinion from the local office:
• Doctors of Medicine, Pharmacy and Dental Surgery with a hospital and/or university appointment,
• Doctors of Medicine, general practitioners and specialists in private practice, Doctors of Pharmacy and Dental Surgery,
• All health professionals.

GENERAL AND EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES
• Being able to develop, implement and assess a simulation-based educational programme.
• Assessment: thesis + debriefing video of a simulation session
• Attendance: regular attendance at and participation in the programme’s various phases are obligatory. A maximum of 3 half-days of justified absence over the year is tolerated. Above such 3 half-days of absence, validation of the DIU will require reenrolment the following year.

ORGANISATION
Number of simulation sessions per module:
The programme comprises 7 periods:
• Period 1 : Prerequisites: each participant will have to attend 2 simulation sessions at CUESim.
• Period 2 : Main principles and time of a simulation session: consolidation.
• Periods 3 and 5 : each participant will have to play a dual role, as manikin operator and as facilitator.
• Period 4 : the various types of Simulation tools; Research and Assessment.
• Period 6 : the various simulation techniques and debriefing.
• Period 7 : participation in 2 training sessions at CUESim; alone with “real” learners but debriefing of debriefing with CUESim’s teaching team on the period.

Validation: by a thesis + video (briefing, simulation, and debriefing) and defence, assessing all 7 periods.

• 12 learners
• 5 facilitators 

Cost

• Initial Training fee: €600
• In-service Training fee with payment by the employer: €2,000
• University Fees: €243 (€159 if you have already enrolled in a course at the University of Lorraine this year)
